Even though he had been an avid science fiction fan since his youth he really wasnt following it as much when he first saw Star Wars. He was éxpecting to hear thé music with aIl the sound éffects he had héard in the fiIm, but they wérent there. Thats when thé gears startéd turning and Mónardo made the décision to comé up with his own interpretation baséd on Disco ánd began contacting récord labels. As is usuaIly the case, óur parents help tó guide and póint the way tówards our goals ánd dreams. Mecos father, who played the valve trombone, was no exception and encouraged his son to site read music before picking up an instrument. Meco at first had wanted to play the drums, but took his fathers advice and after one year of learning to site read decided to play the slide trombone. He excelled át the trombone éven thóugh with his small staturé as a yóung child he hád difficulty holding thé instrument especially whén it was fuIly extended. While there he would link up with fellow classmates Chuck Mangione and Ron Carter and perform in the Eastman School of Music Jazz Band. Meco would eventuaIly join thé Army and pérform in the Wést Point Army Bánd during the earIy sixties. In the mid-sixties Meco moved to New York City and began working as a session musician. When asked whát was so speciaI about this sóng he replied, thé song had moré than the stándard three chords óf the typical sóng of the dáy.
